Michel Tröhler studied law at the University of Fribourg (i.Ue.) and gained his licentiate in 1996.
He moved to the private sector following initial roles as a court lawyer, a lawyer in administration and as editor-in-chief of the specialist magazine sic! at the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property.
Michel Tröhler can look back on over 20 years of experience in asset management, particularly in the management of collective assets (funds). He worked for two banks: Banque Cantonale Vaudoise and SIX SIS AG; two fund management companies: IPConcept (Schweiz) AG (formerly Union Investment [Schweiz] AG) and GAM Investment Management (Switzerland) AG; and a collective assets manager: Vescore AG (formerly Notenstein Asset Management AG).
His clear focus area is financial market law: FIDLEG/FINIG, GWG, FATCA and cross border, and general corporate compliance & governance and risk management.
Following a foray into research and teaching at the ZHAW Zurich University of Applied Sciences, he became a member of management at the Association of Swiss Asset Managers (SAM) as Head of Global Activities in German-speaking Switzerland.
At the end of 2021, Michel Tröhler decided to return to practice, once again offering the private sector his specialist knowledge and project management experience. As a senior consultant at Alithis AG in 2022, Michel Tröhler was in charge of FINIG applications sent to FINMA by various asset managers.
From 2023, he headed up the control functions (compliance including GWG and risk management) for several licensed asset managers or acted as a deputy. At Helvetic Trust AG, he has been responsible for company risk management since 1 June 2023.
